IN METAPHORICAL LANDSCAPE
THE
ORIENTAL WAY OF VISUAL SEQUENCE
A juxtaposition of forms, lines, and functional uses of spaces to create/reflect a dual image of history and future. Straight and curvy lines of pathways, rows of trees, plazas, and a square lawn with stepped terraces at an outdoor theater and superimposed modular grids on the pavement pattern are reminiscent of agricultural models, paddy fields, terrace paddy fields, canal/waterways of the past transportation means, and orchards, on the other hand, they may be viewed as models of the organization pattern, computer disk or main frame and network link of an IT system.
Visual sequence design has played a significant role in the design concept. The oriental way* of visual approach (not a singular object on axis like Versailles, for example) has been used to draw people deeper and deeper into the project, from one space to another, with each space containing parts of the message to the viewers, based on their own perception or interpretation.
The climax of this sequence is the events’ space of the outdoor theater area and the riverfront promenade viewed from the Bank’s main lobby, with the magnificent view toward are the Chao Phraya River and The Rama IX Bridge, symbolizing the reaching out and expanding of services for customers.
The oriental way of visual approach
may be associated with a more Thai way of life and how Thai people perceive
when moving through their vernacular landscape.
